Sandra Berkowitz

Vice President
National Healthcare Industry Practice Willis/HRH
Sandra L Berkowitz is a vice president in the National Health Care Industry Practice of Willis HRH. For the 23 years previous to her short-lived “retirement,” Sandy was with Johnson & Higgins and then Marsh, acting as an insurance and risk advisor. As a nurse and an attorney, she brought a vast depth of knowledge to assist her healthcare industry and not-for-profit clients (ranging from small community hospitals to national health insurers) to identify and manage what kept them up at night. As Marsh’ managed care practice leader, Sandy built a multi-million dollar managed care practice from her strategic vision of how reimbursement of healthcare services would evolve, and the risks inherent in those business models.
Based in Malvern, Pennsylvania, Sandy works with Willis HRH healthcare clients and client executives to translate current business environment demands into best practices that support self-sufficiency in managing the growing self-insured retentions of their professional liability insurance programs. Ms. Berkowitz's experience includes four years in health care risk management consulting operations and seven years as casualty broker and account manager for Philadelphia health care industry and insurance company clients. She frequently initiates and edits healthcare risk publications, and is especially fond of analyzing coverage issues highlighted by industry claim experiences.
She received her B.S. in Nursing from the University of California, San Francisco and her J.D. from Temple University School of Law. She is co-founder of The American Association of Nurse Attorneys and is past president of The American Association of Nurse Attorneys Foundation.
