Dr. Alekcey Murillo Alfaro

Alekcey Murillo is the Assistant Medical Director of Hospital Clinica Biblica in San José, Costa Rica. Hospital Clinica Biblica is a private, nonprofit hospital that was founded by missionaries in the early 20th century as a response to the high infant and maternal mortality in Costa Rica at that time. It was the first hospital to be accredited by Joint Commission International in Central America, and was recently ranked in the top five hospitals in Latin America by the magazine America Economia. Dr. Murillo also serves as Executive Director of Project Emmanuel, a community development project serving the Cabecar people of Costa Rica under the non-profit organization Indigenous Community Development International (ICDI). Dr. Murillo’s career as a physician has focused on the underserved indigenous populations of North and Central America, including former employment by the U.S. Indian Health Services at medical clinics in Arizona and New Mexico. He received his medical doctorate from the Universidad Internacional de las Americas in San José, Costa Rica, and completed his specialty in Family Medicine at the Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education in Rochester, Minnesota
