 Physician Executives are a relatively rare breed; experienced ones with successful track records are almost an extinct species.  And someone with a 360 view of Indian Healthcare is a great rarity.  His experience in healthcare is over 40 years.

 Having graduated from one of the top 5 medical colleges of India in 1968 (MBBS) having topped in Eye & ENT with a merit position overall in the top 7 in the university followed by topping the university in MS and winning the gold medal (PV Cherian Award) followed by stints of training in Mumbai & USA led to his joining Government Service both state & central governments first in a non teaching and then in an academic (Asstt. Prof.) role.  This was followed by private practice in Delhi in two of Delhi’s well known hospitals (Mool Chand & Tirth Ram Shah Hospital) for nearly 3 decades.  Entrepreneur experience came through settling up one of Delhi’s best and modern polyclinics & then a 25 bed hospital in early 1980’s.  He has had the opportunity of being on the management Board and Advisory council of a Trust (Not for Profit Hospital) helping build it up from scratch to a modern hospital in Delhi.  This was followed by a 4½ year stint with Max Healthcare as the Head of Medical Affairs in his position as Executive Director with a seat on the Board of two Max Companies including Max Healthcare, a large corporate healthcare company in North India.  From 65 beds when he joined, he took Max to 650 Beds when he left.  For the last nearly 2 years, he is in the present job successfully helping the company grow with leaps and bounds.  He is responsible for (a) Strategy Development and Business Modeling (b) Developing Service Lines (c) Developing Process Improvement (Patient Centered models of care) (d) HR & Organization Design – Medical Manpower Planning & Recruitment, Physician – Management Relations & Organizational Redesigning (e) Project / Facility Planning & Equipment Planning (Project Champion of the biggest Fortis Hospital being built in Gurgaon – Fortis International Institute of Medical & Biosciences) (f) Academics, Research & Training (Newsletter, Journal, Simulation Centre, PG Training & Nurse Training Programme) & (f) Overall Head of Quality & Safety including Accreditation.  He is Director of Fortis Emergency Services dealing with running Delhi’s Ambulance Services in a PPP with Delhi Government and is a Senior Consultant in Department of ENT, Fortis Healthcare Limited, at Escorts Hospital, Delhi.

Winner of several prestigious awards and recognitions, he is a member of several national and international bodies.  He has contributed several articles to medical journals and in 3 medical books.  He is the Co-Chairman of FICCI’s National Health Insurance Committee and of CIIs Skill Development Committee and serves on FICCIs National Healthcare Committee – as Chairman of FICCI-IRDA Healthcare Advisory Group.  He has extensively experience in Hospital Accreditation and has been working closely with Quality Council of India in the field of Hospital & Healthcare Accreditation and is a frequent invitee to various conferences nationally and internationally on Quality & Safety.  He is a member of the Asian Society of Quality.

 Widely travelled, he is a well sought after speaker on Indian Healthcare in National & International Forums.  He serves as a Governing Body Member of Indian Institute of Healthcare Administration Delhi and for the MBA Healthcare Management Programme of Chitkara University.  He has been a reputed Sports commentator and sports journalist for over 25 years – All India Radio, Doordarshan.  He has written 18 books on sports.

 63 years old Dr. Puri’s wife is also a Doctor (MBBS, MD) who is now retired.  His son & daughter in law are doctors settled in USA whilst his daughter and son in law are Architects in Delhi.
