Maryland Hospitals for a Healthy Environment
Since 2005, Dr. Joan D. Plisko has been the Technical Director of Maryland Hospitals for a Healthy Environment (MD H2E) – a grant funded initiative housed at the University of Maryland School of Nursing. Joan provides technical assistance, as well as educational and networking opportunities in environmental sustainability to hospitals and service providers in Maryland. Areas of focus include environmentally preferable purchasing, toxics reduction, recycling and management of solid, hazardous, and infectious waste, resource conservation, green building, and more. MD H2E has received many awards during Joan’s tenure, including:
- Green Policy Awardin 2010 from Baltimore Business Journal
- Champion for Changeeach year from 2007 through 2010 from Practice Green Health
- Sustainable Healthcare Partnership Awardin 2009 from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 3
- Green Leadership Non-Profit Awardin 2008 from the U.S. Green Building Council Maryland Chapter.
